Working holiday on the main house water supply

Oh man, let me tell you about our Easter weekend – it was definitely a working holiday! The main house had some serious water supply issues that just couldn't wait. We're talking about needing to install all new copper water lines and, crucially, a proper "stop-cock" or stop valve right between the municipal supply and the house itself. You see, the tenant had been complaining about water leaks, and it turned out the previous owners had used this totally subpar irrigation piping for the cold water supply to the homestead. Honestly, it was way below standard and regulation, and it was causing all sorts of headaches. So, it was time to get our hands dirty and sort it out properly.

So, my dad, our incredibly reliable helper from town, and I rolled up our sleeves and got to work. We ripped out all that old, dodgy piping – what a relief that was! Then, we started installing all the new copper lines, running them right to the back of the house. My dad was a total pro, handling all the copper welding, or "sweating" as we call it, for all the connections into the house. It was awesome having his expertise for that intricate part of the job. We even had to put in a new "temporary" kitchen tap because the old one had completely given up the ghost. I say "temporary" because we've got bigger plans for the kitchen's plumbing once the tenant moves out and we can finally take full ownership of the living space in the main house. But for now, a working tap was a huge win!

Despite all the hard work, it being Easter weekend meant we still managed to squeeze in some proper holiday traditions. On Good Friday, after a solid day of plumbing, we got to enjoy some absolutely delicious cultural pickled fish and classic hot cross buns. And then on Easter Sunday, my amazing wife outdid herself again, preparing a fantastic lunch for all of us. She really took care of her "boys" – keeping us well-fed and happy amidst the dust and pipes. It’s those moments that really make the hard work worth it, you know? It was a true team effort, both on the plumbing front and on the home front.

Looking back, that weekend was a real mix of elbow grease and family time. It's always a good feeling when you can tackle a big project like that and see it through, especially when it directly improves someone's living situation. And being able to do it alongside my dad, with our trusty helper, made it even better. Plus, knowing that my wife was holding down the fort and making sure we were well-fed and looked after really made all the difference. It just goes to show, sometimes the most rewarding "holidays" are the ones where you're rolling up your sleeves and getting things done with the people you care about.
